Повече от 100 влиятелни световни лидери, включително 18 Нобелови лауреати, 32 бивши държавни и правителствени ръководители, сред които и президентите на България (2012-2017) Росен Плевнелиев и (1997-2002) Петър Стоянов, политически лидери, международни неправителствени организации и институции, артисти и световни знаменитости като Андреа Бочели, Боно, Джордж Клуни, сър Ричадр Брансън и др. подписаха апел, иницииран от Yunus Center, призоваващ за обявяване на ваксините срещу COVID-19 за глобално общо благо.
Обединеният апел призовава към действията от страна на правителствата, фондациите, филантропите и социалните предприятия да произведат и разпространят ваксините безплатно по целия свят. Подписалите се приканват всички социални, политически и здравни субекти да потвърдят колективната си отговорност за защитата на ВСИЧКИ уязвими лица, без каквато и да е дискриминация.
Пандемията COVID-19 ясно разкрива силните и слабите страни на системите на здравеопазване във всяка страна и подчертава пречките и неравенствата в достъпа до здравни грижи. Ефективността на предстоящата ваксинационна кампания ще зависи от нейната универсалност.
Подписалите документа отправят апел към всички световни лидери, включително генералния секретар на Организацията на обединените нации, генералния директор на Световната здравна организация, религиозните лидери, социалните и морални лидери, ръководителите на изследователски лаборатории и фармацевтични компании и медиите, да обединят усилията си и да гарантират, че в случай на ваксина срещу COVID-19 ще има глобален консенсус, че тя трябва да бъде разпространена като световно общо благо.
